Why does the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle give out this award?
(Click here for the About the Award page)
Created in 1998 to promote the connection between the Tribune-Eagle,
community involvement and Cheyenne’s largest event, the award
honors individuals who have volunteered their time and efforts to make
Cheyenne a better place to live.
The award draws its inspiration from the creator of Frontier Days,
Col. E.A. Slack, publisher of The Daily Sun-Leader, the predecessor
of The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. Slack used his influence and his newspaper
to build support for a community event that would draw visitors to the
young town. By first gaining the support of other influential and dedicated
citizens and then by using the Sun-Leader to promote the idea, Slack
successfully pulled together the first Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo
in September 1897.
Who chooses the recipients?
